Acid Reign formed in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England in 1985 by vocalist H. and guitarist Gary "Gaz" Jenning, bassist Ian Gangwer, and drummer Mar "Ramsey" Wharton. The band soon cut a demo called, Moshkinstein, and upon it's completion added second guitarist, Kevin Nixon to the band. The band signed to the label, Under One Flag, and re-recorded everything on their demo, Moshkinstein, and the debut mini-album boasted the same title, and this recording was issued in 1987. They recieved international attention for this release.
1989 saw the release of 2 EP's, Hanging On The Telephone, and Humanoia. If that wasn't enough, the band also released their second full length, The Fear that same year. Following this release, Gaz and Ian took their leave, and were replaced by guitarist Adam Lehan, and bassist Mac. With the new members in place, the band recorded and released their third album, Obnoxious in 1990. During the tour for Obnoxious, Lehan quit and joined Bitter & Twisted, and also later joined Cathedral that featured Lehan's predecessor in Acid Reign, Gaz.
The band continued as a four piece. But, in 1991, Kevin left, and thus the band disbanded soon after. Vocalist H. joined the bands Strange Thing and Dullabye. Kevin was later seen in Lawnmower Death, and Mark Wharton joined Gaz and Adam in Cathedral. The band's final output was a compilation entitled, The Worst Of Acid Reign. The compilation was a best of album, but included some live recordings as well as 7 inch single. Moshkinstein was reissued in 1995 with the 2 EP's as bonus tracks. This version was only released in Japan.
Lyrically, the band had a humorous approach that turned many people off. But, despite the nature of their lyrics, they still managed to deliver some competant thrash metal. They also managed to achieve a real good cult following in their short career.
