But if you listen to every Led Zep albums, except one or two songs, everything is blues and rock.
Deep Purple was considered has hard rock band and I never understood why Led Zep was entitled Hard Rock band. Maybe because of "Whole Lotta Love" ?

You know, there were a bunch of heavy/hard rock back in time and they were precursor of metal.

That being said, it's up to you to include whatever band you consider as metal. we live in a free world

I stated that I didn't want anybody to include hard/heavy rock in their lists because I want to concentrate on metal in this thread. There's nothing stopping you starting a similar thread for those early bands that laid the groundwork for metal (or for bands that still play those styles). I will definitely contribute to it if you do.

I started to do a list, but I scrapped it because I don't think there is very much that I've listened to that others on SnakeNet haven't. I mean...I started SN with the expressed purpose of bringing metal to the masses and while over the years I have introduced people to a lot of stuff they might not have heard otherwise, everything I was picking was pretty much played out here.

The best part of going to underground fests like the old Milwaukee Metalfests and Maryland Deathfest is they showcased so many unsigned and relatively unknown bands. That is pretty much what I tried to do with Metal Nation as well. I rarely watch headliners at shows like that.

Like for example, what I usually do at Maryland Deathfest is I'll ask someone like my buddy Brant or I Have Dysentary or even just random deathheads and find out who they really want to see. The people that can really uncover gems for ya are the ones that are fanatics about one sub-genre. I'm too all over the place in my tastes and too far removed from the underground these days to really have much of value to input. I might come up with something after MDF though.
