The band calling itself Fear Factory, featuring the rejoined Dino Cazares, as well as Burton C. Bell, Byron Stroud and new drummer Gene Hoglan will release their new studio album, "Mechanize", which will release in Europe on February 5, 2010 via Germany's AFM Records and February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records in the U.S. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Paradise Lost) and mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy).

Album artwork:

Tracklisting:

01. Mechanize
02. Industrial Discipline
03. Fear Campaign
04. Powershifter
05. Christploitation
06. Oxidizer
07. Controlled Demolition
08. Designing The Enemy
09. Metallic Division
10. Final Exit

UPDATE 2/02
Listen to "Mechanize" in it's entirety on Fear Factory's Myspace page.

Watch the videoclip for "Fear Campaign" here.

"I didn't want any of the soundscapes to sound natural," says Bell. "I wanted them to be really mechanical because I wanted that aspect of Fear Factory to really shine again. I feel it kind of got dulled over and that's the aspect that I really enjoyed a lot about Fear Factory. I was a huge fan of industrial music and still am. And you don't hear much of that anymore these days."

Indeed, thnaks for the link. I was curious about the sound of the new line-up. Nothing new, but definitely "what I want Fear Factory to sound like" to quote Brack. Smilie Goatee

Because the only thing 'Fear Factory' do really well is this kind of mechanical, staccato, tremelo-picked stop-start riffing, matched beat for beat by the drums. With the soaring vocals over the top.

Put this track next to anything on "Demanufacture" - which will be about 15 years old once this new album is released - and tell me exactly how their sound has evolved...

Having said that, count me among those who still enjoy the trick from time to time Winking Goatee

Isn't that the point of the album when Burton says he wants this aspect of FF to shine again? Confused

Between Demanufacture and an expected "clone" to be released next year there were quite some changes in their style (to the worse IMHO). I don't see why coming back to the original style is so bad. I wouldn't blame Paradise Lost or Ministry or Samael for releasing albums similar to older stuff after venturing into quite different styles. Bolt Thrower wouldn't stray from their straight path in the first place.

Well, exactly. It's not much of a trick if you suck at it.

I didn't say it was bad. I said this is the only thing they're good at.

I already said I enjoy it from time to time. I will also say that every song they've done in this style follows essentially the exact same blue-print.
I'm simply stating that I enjoy the band when they do what they do best, but I'm also giving the reason why I don't love them. They do one thing really, really well, and some other stuff not very well at all. In short, they are a one-trick pony.

So everything I meant to say was encapsulated in my first post Rasping Goatee
You just chose to interpret that statement negatively, when it can just as easily be given a positive twist.

I'm not surprised. I could probably be less ambivalent sometimes, but this way generates more discussion, so it's more fun for everyone Grinning Goatee

It was the word "one-trick pony". I thought that has negative connotations.

"The term is generally used in a disparaging way, since it suggests a lack of flexibility and an inability to work outside very specific parameters."

Simple misunderstanding then Wink

Hoglan?!?!?!!?

OMG! Now I'm interested in FF again. This was my favorite band about 10 years ago. I lost interest once the album after Obsolete came out. Although I'm stoked about Hoglan being in the band, I'm bummed about Herrera being gone, I liked him a lot too, what happened to him?

Jeez, is Dino bigger than Gene or did Gene just lose wight??

It's probably "forced perspective", the technique also used in Lord of the Rings to let the hobbit-actors appear smaller (Hoglan) and human-actors larger (Dino) *lol*

"Powershifter" is a great song, crunchy guitar with good druming. Reminds me of the Obsolete era but heavier. i dig it.

Leaked Winking Goatee

5 songs in it's holding up pretty well. I think alot of people are going to dig this one. Of course, the fact that I haven't really listened to 'FF' in years helps give it a fresh edge for me again, but it seems pretty solid so far and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in many other people's top 5's next year.

Not to sound like an old grumpy man, but that is the problem with most videos lately. It seems like nobody has any money to make a decent video and instead of just showing some concert stuff or what ever they all seem to think...WOW WOULD IT NOT BE COOL TO DIRECT A FAST BLINKING LIGHT DIRECTLY AT THE CAMERA FOR THE DURATION OF THE SONG!!!!....no!
