New band I recently discovered: Funebre. Very good hungarian black metal. The new album "Indictment About The World Of Man" is pretty much sure to get a spot in my top 10 of 2008

Witchcraft you say? I'm not familiar with that. Will have to check it out, for sure! |

Out of a pile of power metal I have pushed in front me while doing other things are rising Iron Fire and Freedom Call. Both bands are excelent. |

That Funebre is very solid, I think I'll look into it more.
Recently I cut back on metal a bit and started to explore electronic music more, that's why I only discovered two very interesting metal (more or less) bands.
1. Blacklodge - Industrial Black Metal from France http://www.myspace.com/loginsatan
2. Stahlmantel - EBM with Black Metal vocals from Germany http://www.myspace.com/stahlmantel You can download their newest demo from the site for free if someone is interested. |

Forest of Fog - Nebelhymen
Found this the other day and found it noteworthy. Thrashy black metal side project from a guitarist from Eluveitie. Smokin' from begining to end with melodic interludes tastefully not over-done. Great riffs and plenty of fun.

Canada's 'Hellacaust' play explosive black/thrash that just blasts from start to finish. Some great riffing here, and the drummer is no slouch either. A real firecracker |

"Black Metal vocals" sounded interesting. But I thought it would mean something else. The vocals of Stahlmantel sound like standard harsh/terror ebm/electro to me. Nothing special But the tracks on their myspace page are ok. Guess I'll download their full demo. Thanks for the hint.

They sound black metal to me. The vocalist is ex-Bethlehem by the way.
If you like Attila's (Mayhem) vocals check Plasma Pool.
I discovered a really kickass old school swedish death metal band recently thanks to a friend of mine. Maybe some of you already know it but it's new to me. It's called Interment and they started in 1988 but gave up 5 years later only to reunite in 2002. They released a great split in 2007 with Funebrarum and are planning to record their debut album early this year. If they mantain the quality of the split this will be one of the best albums of 2009

If you like stuff like 'Drudkh' and 'Wolves In The Throne Room', you are sure to love the rather obscure 'Fauna'.
They've self-released two albums as near as I can gather without the aid of metal-archives atm, although the first release, "Rain" has seen an official re-release. Both releases consist of a single track, with "Rain" clocking in at just over an hour, and "The Hunt" impressively making it just past the 80 minutes mark.
Splendid mix of ambient/acoustic and atmospheric black metal. I don't know if linking to "illegal downloads" could get SN in trouble, so I'll just say if you like this sort of thing, get yer arse over to blackmetalownsyou.blogspot.com for the links. |

Sylosis - Conclusion of an age
http://www.myspace.com/sylosis
I could never get much into the nu-thrash thing such as killswitch engage, unearth, trivium, blah blah blah...but I admit with a guilty, sheepish grin, that I heard Sylosis and it is FAR superior to any of the latter and I actually enjoy it quite a bit. If put on the spot, however, I will deny it. |

'Ultima Missa': Italian depressive black metal with a big '70s prog influence (but not like, say, 'Enslaved'). A mix of 'Burzum' and 'Goblin' (Italian symph prog, did soundtracks for Dario Argento movies, as well as Romero's "Dawn Of The Dead") might give you an idea. |

I recently discovered "Wolves In The Throne Room." They are from the same record label that puts out alot of good music. Another band from the same label is "Earth".
I think WolvesITTR is similar to Daylight Dies or Agalloch, I find alot of similarity in them. Earth is sort of a doomy/stoner vibe type of listen. Both are really good, and I must say, I don't work for the label but the guy who runs the label seems to find great music.
They are predominately from the Washington State area. |

I recently discovered a band from Iran, Mordab, I can't find quite a place for them (genre I mean). They have some pretty cool stuff on their main page and it can be downloaded for free. I'd just want to ask some of the people who are more musically "smarter" than me, what genre would they put them in? And is it metal at all, since the Metal-Archives won't let me upload their info saying that they are not metal... |

I'd say death metal at first listen. Maybe death/thrash, some folky influences from the couple tracks I checked, but I'll go with DM for now.
And:
quote:
Regarding this band, they are clearly metal. Do they have a physical release, though? Perhaps the demo? The reason is, that net only releases are 99% of the time not allowed here and not considered valid for the acceptance of a new band. Source: Metal-Archives Forum

I've also been bumming "Wolves in The Throne Room" lately. I'll get myself a copy of one of their albums asap.
For the time being I'm finding myself happy to browse through here and find plenty of new music from the previous posts |

Also Recently discovered Demilich.
Some pretty strange sounding death metal with a really cool sounding vocal.
Shame they only released one full length before disbanding.

Well then, looks like I already have it
As soon as I get a job, I'm still gonna buy it, just cuz I want it in my C.D collection.
Also, Duskburn. Some pretty cool sludgey, doomy type stuff.
